The Indian electric vehicle (EV) market is experiencing a surge, and at the forefront of this revolution stands the Ola S1 Pro – 2nd Generation. This scooter, manufactured by Ola Electric, a household name in ride-hailing, has captured attention with its blend of performance, technology, and affordability. But is the Ola S1 Pro the right electric stallion for you? Let’s delve into the details and help you decide.
The Ola S1 Pro – 2nd Generation boasts a modern and sporty design that breaks away from the conventional scooter look. The clean lines, sculpted curves, and a flat floorboard give it a futuristic aesthetic. The LED headlamp and taillight add a touch of sophistication, while the exposed trellis frame hints at the scooter’s underlying strength.
Comfort is a key consideration, and the S1 Pro delivers with a wide, comfortable seat and ample legroom, making it suitable for both short commutes and longer rides. The pillion rider also gets a dedicated seat with grab rails for added security. The telescopic front forks and a double-sided swingarm at the rear promise a smooth ride, even on uneven roads.
The heart of the Ola S1 Pro lies in its electric motor. This powerhouse cranks out a peak power of 11 kW, translating to exhilarating acceleration. The 0-40 kmph zip in a mere 2.6 seconds is sure to put a smile on your face. But power isn’t everything – the S1 Pro offers three riding modes: Normal, Sport, and Eco. Normal mode provides a balanced ride for everyday commuting. Sport mode unleashes the full potential of the motor, perfect for highway cruising. Finally, Eco mode prioritizes range by optimizing power delivery, ideal for extending your journey when needed.
The Ola S1 Pro boasts a certified range of 195 km on a single charge. This makes it a practical choice for urban commutes and even weekend getaways within city limits. However, real-world range can vary depending on riding style, terrain, and weather conditions. Aggressive riding in Sport mode will undoubtedly decrease the range, whereas a gentle pace in Eco mode can potentially push it beyond the claimed figure.
One of the most striking features of the Ola S1 Pro is its 7-inch, liquid crystal display – a first in the Indian scooter segment. This high-resolution touchscreen acts as the nerve center of the scooter, displaying vital information like speed, battery percentage, and trip data. It also boasts smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, allowing access to navigation, music playback, and even call alerts. An onboard speaker eliminates the need for a separate music system.
Ola hasn’t compromised on safety. The OLA S1 Pro comes equipped with disc brakes on both wheels, offering ample stopping power. The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) on the front wheel prevents wheel lockup during hard braking, especially on slippery surfaces. Hill-hold control comes in handy on inclines, preventing the scooter from rolling back while starting. Additionally, a reverse mode allows for easy maneuvering in tight spaces.
Ola has set up a network of experience centers across India where you can test ride the OLA S1 Pro and get a feel for the scooter. The purchase process can be completed online, streamlining the experience. While there’s only one variant available, you can choose from five distinct color options to personalize your ride.
One of the most compelling reasons to consider the OLA S1 Pro is its eco-friendly nature. Unlike its gasoline-powered counterparts, the OLA S1 Pro produces zero tailpipe emissions, contributing to cleaner air and a healthier environment. Additionally, electric vehicles are significantly cheaper to run compared to petrol scooters. With rising fuel prices, the OLA S1 Pro presents a cost-effective alternative in the long run.
While the Ola S1 Pro offers a compelling package, there are a few things to keep in mind. The relatively new electric vehicle infrastructure in India might pose a challenge for some. Charging options can be limited, especially in smaller towns. While Ola is establishing its own charging network, relying solely on public charging stations might require some planning for long journeys.
Another factor to consider is service and maintenance. As a new player in the EV space, Ola’s service network is still under development. While basic service needs can likely be handled, availability of spare parts and trained technicians in all locations might be an initial concern.
The Ola S1 Pro is a game-changer in the Indian electric scooter market
